Looking over the city of Legaspi is the Southern Luzon’s most famous landmark, the mighty Mount Mayon.  With  its 7941 feet gives rise to its reputation as one of the world’s most perfectly symmetrical volcano.  Mount Mayon as the most active volcano in the Philippines became one of the tourist spots in the country.  Despite the constant threat it poses, farmers cannot help but be drawn to the rich soils that surround it.  The very challenging climb to the volcano’s summit has also made it a magnet for many visitors.

Healthy Tips For Travelers

Before going to your holiday trip, a little pre-holiday preparation can help to make the going a lot easier.  Here are some healthy tips before you go travel:

1.  Carry identification cards with you and have a copy in your belongings.

Make a list of information such as:

1. Name, address and phone number.

2. Passport number

3. Name and address of person to notify in case of emergency.

4. Health status in case you have any chronic illnesses.

5. Allergies to any medication.

6. Name and address of your attending physician.

7. Travel insurance policy.

2.  Before you leave, have a check up with your doctor if you have chronic illnesses or had recently an operation or if you’re an elderly.

3. Make sure that you have an enough medication to bring with if you are in a long term medication to cover the length of your stay and an additional supply in case you extend your trip.

4. Put your medication in your hand carry.  This lets you have ready access to any medications you may need to take during the flight and to avoid the risk of it being lost.

5. Keep your medications in its original packaging with the original labeling, so that it is clear that it is your prescription.  Make  a list of your medications, dose and frequency with the brand name and its generic name.  Include it in your hand carry bag for in case you lose your medications or if you have to be admitted into hospital.

6.  Prepare a travel kit which includes:  Contact lens solutions if you wear contact lense; Eyeglass to protect your eyes from sun damage.  Sunscreen, lip balm, and insect repellant.

7.  Have also a first aid kit.  Your kit will depends on the activities that you will be doing while away.  It could be a simple kit that includes: An antiseptic cream, plaster or medical strips (band-aid) gauze and elastic bandages, scissors and aspirin or paracetamol for pain and fever, thermometer, and alcohol.

Dinagyang Annual Festival

Dinagyang Annual Festival in Iloilo is celebrated during the fourth week of January.  During the festival a huge processions and dances around the city’s streets are the main attraction.  It was accustomed that every town and village across Panay holds its own Ati-Atihan Festival wherein dancers are all in colorful costumes with face and body paints.  Those held at Kalibo and Iloilo are by the largest and most renowned.  While Kalibo’s event is wild and chaotic, with little crowd control, Iloilo is well organized and choreographed.  The Dinagyang Festival celebration is becoming bigger and even better, many artists from different towns are coming over to participate.  It is also become a tourist attraction in Iloilo that helps a lot in our tourism industry.  At Dinagyang Festival the dance groups, some consisting of over a hundred dancers, move around the town, performing at designated sites.  The groups are being judge during their performance with their costumes and their dance routine, the over all winners will be announce once the result from the different dance sites have been compared.  The competition between groups are very tight because they were all prepared for this street dance competition.  It is extremely fierce, resulting in strange vibrant costumes and  most are freaky.
